Kudos to Al for making space for these gems on this ultimate collector's label. Gems when Elmo Linn's band plays Honky Tonk and includes a somewhat cheesy tenor sax? Yep, to me anyway. These are working bands far away from the mainstream sounds of the day.
ReplyDeleteIt's rather like some of those Cozy 78s where a mandolin will suddenly show up, as one does on the Bobby Cook record here. But then Cook was also on Cozy. Elmo Linn will be better known because of his later Westport 45 out of Kansas City and between those he had at least one 78 on Damon. "Lorita" is not quite as rare as most and seems to have sold pretty well, leading to the other two.
