FORTUNE 204 has KB
numbers in the deadwax - KB 858.A and KB 858.B, there are no Fortune master numbers in the wax. This tends to suggest that the metalwork / stampers had been prepared prior to the FORTUNE release, perhaps the recordings may have
been released earlier on
another label?
KB would signify a Kay Bank, Minneapolis, MN pressing. The Kay Bank number would be a 1958 release.

ReplyDeleteThe letters KB don't necessarily translate to Kay Bank. Capitol used those numbers for its 1960 custom recordings. I've seen others use the letters kb in different ways. I've never seen a decimal point used by Kay Bank, if that is indeed what we are seeing in the dead wax. I have seen Kay Bank numbers in the dead wax, with no Kay Bank number printed on the label, but it's pretty rare. I doubt this is Kay Bank, unless there is no decimal point.
ReplyDeleteI have each one of these and they are on ebay now. I did not know what I had before I put them on. They are both in NM condition. I wish I had not put them on.
