These were cut about 1947 or so and Rose City was apparently Jackson's own label. The full names not given in vocal credits were Kash Duncan & Marcellus Martin. This group grew out a pre-war group, the Pals of the Golden West. Jackson (as "Bud" Jackson) was one of the original members of the that group and Kash Duncan had replaced the original fiddler (Lucky Pulliam) in about 1940-41. THe Pals, whose star was girl singer Nora Lou Martin, appeared in a couple of Autry films and one or two other westerns. Scotty Harrell was a member for a while before the war broke them up. Jackson seems to have formed the Northwesterners after the war.
ReplyDeleteI have a one of the 78 records above (1001) signed by Roy Jackson, found it at a thrift store, paid .25 cents for it. Couldn't find much information on the artist, thank you for the information.
ReplyDeleteRoy "Bud" Jackson flew B-17's with the 92nd Bomb Group in WW2. He named his plane "Jacksons Jive Five" while it was in service after the war transporting combat veterans to locations for shipment home.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone still monitor this page? Roy Jackson was a good friend of mine, I'm excited to see this and hear his music from back in the day!! If you have any information about more of his music I'd love to know about it. I'll keep checking back here.
ReplyDeleteFYI, Roy's band did indeed do 3 movies with Autry. Roy was in a movie company's (RKO?) HR office getting ready to sign a contract when a messenger brought in a telegram stating no more men could be hired due to the war effort!

Robert, if you are still monitoring this site, would you be interested in selling the 78 you have? Roy was a great personal friend of mine and it would mean a lot to have that record.
