RAYMOND PARRISH - LIGHTNING RECORDS

I have been led to believe that the LIGHTNING label was owned by Blues singer Lightnin' Hopkins. Whether this is true or not I cannot say, if anyone can confirm this please let us know.

  2. Lightnin' Hopkins had one 45 release on Lightning 104, released 1955. Both tracks were from Gold Star sessions 1947-51, and were reissued on Dart 123 in 1960. A Dart LP was also issued from Gold Star masters. I don't think Hopkins was involved in the Lightnin' label, it wasn't his style to get involved in business.

It's much more likely that Bill Quinn of the Gold Star studios (and the former Gold Star label) or his associate Pappy Daily had the Lightning label for local distribution.
